October 8, 2006

Oct. 8–A new magazine targeted specifically to parents will help boost communication between school and home, a Hamilton County Schools administrator said.

Charlene Becker, who directs the schools’ curriculum and serves on the advisory board of Chattanooga Parent, said the free monthly publication will serve as “an important part of the communication link to parents.”

The first issue, which included features by local education, health care and arts professionals, was distributed to students last month.

Publisher Michael Kull of Culture Systems Media said he developed the magazine to provide parents in Hamilton County with a resource to make their lives easier around the issue of parenting.

About 60,000 copies of Chattanooga Parent will be printed each month. They will be distributed at schools, health care and day-care facilities and through the mail, Mr. Kull said.

Parent Stacey Fuller said she expects the magazine to help her family find activities to fill weekends and breaks from school.

“People in Chattanooga just don’t know what activities are out there,” she said. “If you don’t know things are out there, you can’t go to them.”
