Giving Women Power Over AIDS; Traveling Exhibit on Display at Tri-C Western Campus Oct.16-29

PARMA, Ohio, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- "Giving Women Power Over AIDS," a traveling exhibit, will be on display at Cuyahoga Community College's Western Campus, 11000 Pleasant Valley Road, Parma, October 16-29.

Sponsored by the Global Campaign for Microbicides, the exhibition features In Her Mother's Shoes, an award-winning story and photo essay by The Seattle Times about women and children amidst the devastation in a world of AIDS.

Through the exhibit and The Seattle Times story, visitors will learn how scientists and advocates are pursuing research on a microbicide that could possibly protect women from HIV and prevent the loss of future generations to the AIDS epidemic.

The exhibit will be free and open to the public during regular library hours, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Co-sponsored by the Division of Social Sciences, Tri-C Western Campus Library and the Lambda Gay-Straight Alliance, The John T. Carey Memorial AIDS Walk and University Hospitals, along with the AIDS Task Force of Greater Cleveland, have played critical roles in bringing this traveling exhibit to Greater Cleveland which included stops at the Great Lakes Science Center and University Hospitals.

Opened in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College is Ohio's first community college and now the state's largest, serving 55,000 students each year. More than 700,000 county residents have come through Tri-C's doors. The college offers two-year associate degrees, certificate programs, and the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum includes over 1,600 credit courses in more than 130 career, certificate and university transfer programs.
