PBM Products Secures Infant Formula Deal
PBM Products has acquired the exclusive worldwide rights to Profylac, a hypoallergenic infant formula, and has secured a deal with two Danish companies – Arla Foods Ingredients, a subsidiary of Arla Foods, and ALK-Abello which will enhance the company’s distribution network in Europe.
Profylac is a whey-based product that is reportedly easy-to-digest and formulated for infants with severe food allergies, including infants who are allergic to cow’s milk.
“This is a sophisticated, state-of-the-art, allergy formula for PBM,” said company executive vice president Jack Schramm. “We are manufacturing the Profylac in our factory in Vermont for the global market now, and are already preparing for FDA approval to sell this specially formulated product in the USA.
“It will be the first whey-based hypoallergenic infant formula with DHA in the US. The new formula will be an affordable, and we believe, superior, alternative to currently available products.”
Launched in 1990, clinical studies have confirmed Profylac’s suitability for babies with cow’s milk and soy allergy – providing essential nutrition from birth.
Profylac is patented in 19 countries worldwide, where it continues to be available as a brand and as a private-label product from PBM.
Arla Foods is a co-operative owned by approximately 10,600 milk producers in Denmark and Sweden. The Arla Foods Group is Europe’s second largest dairy company. Besides the home markets Denmark, Sweden and the UK, Arla operates subsidiaries in 19 countries.
