Posted on: Monday, 23 October 2006, 09:00 CDT

Health Dialog Services Corporation today announced that two of the company's Shared Decision-Making® videos were honored at the 13th Annual National Health Information Awards (NHIA). "Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer: Making the Journey Your Own" was recognized in the Patient Education category and "Low Back Pain: Managing your Pain through Self-Care" won in the category of Patient Education as well as that of Total Health Information Program, which includes recognition for the video as well as the booklet and packaging. Winners were selected from more than 1,000 entries submitted in this year's awards program.

The National Health Information Awards, organized by the Health Information Resource CenterSM, is the most comprehensive awards program of its kind. Each year the NHIA recognizes the nation's best consumer health information programs and materials. Entries for the awards include brochures, audio/video tapes, newspaper and magazine articles, books, and other media, all of which are judged on content, format, success in reaching the targeted audience, and overall quality.

The Health Dialog videos are part of a broad library of member support tools offered to individuals through Health Dialog's Collaborative CareSM program. Health Dialog's suite of Shared Decision-Making® videos, which are developed in collaboration with the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making (FIMDM), encourages individuals to take a proactive role in their healthcare so they can make more informed choices with their physicians. The videos are produced in both DVD and VHS format and provide viewers with unbiased, evidence-based information on treatment options and condition management.

"These awards set an industry standard of quality for consumer health materials," said Patricia Henze, Executive Director of the Health Information Resource Center. "This 'seal of quality' helps healthcare professionals find the best consumer health information resources for their programs."

"Our team continues to demonstrate dedication and commitment to producing videos and support material that encourage collaboration between individuals and their clinicians," said Bill Brennan, Senior Vice President, Content Services, Health Dialog. "We are very pleased that our Shared Decision-Making® videos are being acknowledged again by NHIA for their role in helping individuals make choices based on a thorough understanding of their conditions and care options."
