Cook Women's Health Introduces Diagnostic Device for Chronic Pelvic Pain-- a Problem Affecting Millions of Women

Cook Women's Health, a division of Cook, the world's largest private medical device company, today introduced the Transcervical Pelvic Venogram (TPV) Set. The Cook TPV Set is designed to diagnose Pelvic Congestion Syndrome (PCS), one of the many causes of chronic pelvic pain.
Chronic pelvic pain affects 15 percent of women ages 18-50 and has a drastic negative impact on the quality of a woman's life. The ailment can be caused by a number of sources, including endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, pelvic injury and often pelvic congestion syndrome. All of these causes are currently difficult to diagnose and treat because of the complexities of each patient's pelvic anatomy.
Pelvic veins are vulnerable to chronic dilation which can lead to vascular congestion.1 Pelvic veins are thin-walled, unsupported and are attached relatively weakly to supporting tissue. As a result they may bulge, stretch and dilate causing discomfort and pain in the form of pelvic congestion, which has similar symptoms to varicose veins commonly found in the legs. Pelvic congestion can be severe and hinder a woman's ability to walk, exercise, sleep, conduct chores and, in some patients, may inhibit any type of activity.
Cook Women's Health is breaking new ground in offering the TPV Set to diagnose this debilitating disorder. The Cook TPV Set enables a dynamic diagnosis of pelvic congestion in a matter of minutes and at a fraction of the cost of other techniques. It also provides physicians with a confident view of the pelvic anatomy in question. This information allows physicians to refine their diagnosis and determine the best treatment options for each individual patient based on the severity of their congestion.
Since its launch in May, Cook Women's Health has brought a new level of patient-centered innovation to the marketplace. Cook Women's Health continues to uniquely address prevalent issues in women's health including infertility, high-risk obstetrics, chronic pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.
"The main objective of Cook's Women's Health division is to improve the quality of life for women across the globe and the announcement of the Transcervical Pelvic Venogram Set is yet another important step in that direction," said Christina Anné, Global Leader of Cook Women's Health. "With so many possible components of chronic pelvic pain, women need a diagnostic tool that can quickly and confidently pinpoint the cause of their discomfort. The Cook TPV Set aids physicians in doing just that."
