ConnectiCare Ranked #6 Health Plan in the Nation, Again

October 27, 2006

FARMINGTON, Conn., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ — ConnectiCare has been ranked #6 of 246 health plans by U.S. News & World Report/NCQA America’s Best Health Plans 2006. The annual rankings are based on industry standards for quality and customer satisfaction. ConnectiCare remained at the #6 position from the 2005 rankings and continues to be the highest ranked plan in Connecticut.

Mickey Herbert, President and CEO, said “We have worked to distinguish ourselves as the health plan with superior quality and service. We are proud to be recognized at the top. There is a difference among health plans and you will benefit from being a member of ConnectiCare.”

A total of 246 of the nation’s health plans were ranked by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The rankings were based on a combination of member satisfaction, clinical quality, and NCQA Accreditation scores.

The scores are grouped in four categories:

Access to Care which includes the consumer experience with getting needed care, getting care quickly, and the health plan’s customer service.

Overall Satisfaction by the consumer on how well doctors communicate, as well as ratings of personal doctor or nurse, specialist seen most often and overall health care.

Prevention measures of how effectively preventive services are provided by the health plan. These services include such things as: childhood and adolescent immunizations, prenatal care, mammography, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening, STD screening, and well-child visits.

Treatment measures of how well health plans take care of people who have health problems, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, osteoporosis, alcohol and drug dependence and depression.

Dr. Paul Bluestein, Chief Medical Officer, says, “We constantly strive to be the best in class. These quality scores translate to tangible improvements in our members’ health and the quality of health services they receive.”

“If we can help our members receive the care that they need to stay healthy or to improve their health, then we will be fulfilling the mission of ConnectiCare, which is a reward in itself.”

ConnectiCare is a managed care company based in Farmington, Connecticut and a member of the HIP Family of Health Plans. ConnectiCare serves nearly 240,000 members. The company was home-grown in Connecticut and has over 500 employees who reside mainly in the Hartford area.
