Vanderbilt’s Paul Keckley Joins Deloitte Center for Health Solutions
WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ — The Deloitte Center for Health Solutions (the “Center”), part of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, today announced that Paul H. Keckley, Ph.D., has joined as its new executive director. In this newly created position, Keckley will provide strategic guidance on the development of Center research.
Keckley, a highly regarded expert in health care economics and health policy, joins the Center from Vanderbilt University, where he served as executive director of the Vanderbilt Center for Evidence-based Medicine. Previously at Vanderbilt, he was associate professor at the School of Medicine and an associate professor of health management at the Owen Graduate School of Business.
Keckley joins a distinguished roster of health care leaders at the Center, including Tommy G. Thompson, independent chairman, and John Glaser, senior advisor. Created in 2005, the Center’s mission is to develop solutions to our nation’s most pressing health care and public health-related challenges. Over the past 18 months, the Center has taken on issues such as health information technology, wellness and prevention programs focused on lowering corporate health care costs and pandemic preparedness. Most recently, the Center presented a proposal to spark a national debate on developing a public-private solution to provide health coverage for uninsured Americans.
“Paul has an extraordinary perspective on health issues from three decades in the private sector and the academy,” said Thompson, who previously served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. “He understands the dynamics of health care economics, is deeply immersed in health policy, sees the big picture trends and has a unique outlook on the interplay of forces that affect health care outcomes and costs. We are looking forward to working with Paul to advance our research program at the Center.”
“In just a year and a half, the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions has made a significant mark on the health care research landscape,” said Keckley. “I am delighted to join the Center, which shares my interest in finding innovative and workable solutions to real health care challenges based on the views and needs of all stakeholders — hospitals, doctors, health plans, governments, employers and citizens. I am looking forward to working with my new Center colleagues to take what is already an impressive research program to the next level.”
Before joining Vanderbilt, Keckley was Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Interdent, a California dental practice management company; chief executive officer of EBM Solutions, a developer of evidence-based guideline software; and principal of The Keckley Group, a strategic planning consulting practice that served 1,200 U.S. provider organizations and health plans. Keckley received a B.A. from Lipscomb University, his MA and Ph.D. from Ohio State University and completed a fellowship in economic policy at Oxford University.
Edward Carey, vice chairman and national managing partner, U.S. industries, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, said, “The Deloitte US organization is committed to bringing clients — and the marketplace — industry-specific knowledge and capabilities. The Center, under the leadership of Secretary Thompson and Paul Keckley, exemplifies our focus on delivering value on the critical challenges faced by the industries that drive the American economy.”
In addition to Thompson, Keckley and Glaser, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP has in recent years retained other leaders to advance its industry focus, including retired Lt. Gen. Harry D. Raduege Jr., chairman of the Deloitte Center for Network Innovation; Joseph A. Stanislaw, independent senior advisor to the Energy & Resources practice; and Don Ogilvie, independent senior advisor to the Banking & Finance Industry group.
