New Family Resource Center Raises the Bar in Nashville

Posted on: Tuesday, 31 October 2006, 09:01 CST

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, Child Care Alliance Inc. will celebrate the grand opening of its new Family Resource Center located at 1008 E. Trinity Lane in Nashville, between Gallatin Pike and Ellington Parkway.

Heisman Trophy Winner Eddie George, Vice Mayor Howard Gentry, and Council Person Pam Murray will speak and also participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Eddie George recently completed two Public Service Announcements to promote awareness of the new programs and to help raise funding for the new Family Resource Center. "We appreciate and respect Mr. George's commitment to making a difference in the lives of our inner city children," stated Executive Director Cleta Paige-Cain. "He is proactive by his deeds and supports our mission to help families stand on their own."

Designed by the architectural firm Kline & Sweeney and Associates, Child Care Alliance's new home has an open and engaging design with nearly 10,000 square feet dedicated to before - and after-school care, comprehensive pre-K program, dance, along with space for new programs such as G.E.D., literacy and resume training. "Our new building allows Child Care Alliance to serve our inner-city clients more efficiently. Certain spaces within the building will be utilized by our children, their families, and the community," said Paige- Cain.

Above all, the new building will provide a space for Child Care Alliance to evolve its outreach to the community by collaborating with additional resources and other nonprofit organizations. Dental, speech and health screening will also be offered to the clients. "We believe that mental health is as important as physical health. Our new program will have a mental health professional as a part of the team to help families problem solve conflict situations," added Paige-Cain.

The unique architecture of the building includes: -- A mural painted as a back drop of the playground that depicts children in a hot air balloon soaring over the Cumberland River. "This symbolizes the organization's new philosophy which states that the sky is the limit for our children and their families," said Paige-Cain. -- A large pyramid glass structure that joins both buildings. -- More than 4,700 square feet of recreational space that has large, 360- degree scale paintings of whales, sharks, turtles, dolphin, and many tropical fishes. "The environment gives you a feeling of the ocean," said Paige-Cain. -- A dance/music room complete with murals of African and ballet dancers, and a baby grand piano. -- Tours of the building will be available after the ceremony; food and beverages will be served.
