DENVER, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Kimball Genetics, Inc. announces the appointment of Dr. Annette K. Taylor, its President and CEO, to the Department of Veterans Affairs Genomic Medicine Program Advisory Committee. The new committee will help the Department of Veteran Affairs establish policies for using genetic information to optimize medical care of veterans and to enhance development of tests and treatments for diseases common among veterans.
The advisors appointed to the committee are internationally recognized scientists who will advise the Department on emerging issues in genomic medicine. The committee is comprised of nine advisors and is chaired by Dr. Wayne W. Grody, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of California, Los Angeles. The first of three annual meetings took place October 16th in Washington DC.
"The Department of Veterans Affairs has tremendous foresight in launching such an ambitious, broad scope program," says Dr. Taylor. "Using the VA's research and clinical attributes presents an enormous opportunity for advancements in genetic knowledge about common diseases and pharmacogenomics. Integration of this knowledge into health care will benefit veterans as well as the entire nation. I am honored to be a part of this prestigious group of scientific and medical professionals and look forward to the exciting work ahead." Trained at Dartmouth, UCLA, and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Dr. Taylor is board certified in both Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genetic Counseling. This combination of qualifications has led to her conviction that a strong emphasis on genetic counseling and education should be an integral part of genetic testing.
