Actavis Monday launched its generic version of Pfizer’s diabetes medication Glucotrol XL in the United States.

Actavis said its glipizide ER tablets are being distributed across the country. Glipizide is approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, particularly in patients whose symptoms cannot be controlled through diet alone.

Total annual sales of glipizide in the United States totaled $195.4 million in the past year.

Actavis said it anticipates launching 15 new generic products in the United States this year. The company also plans to file 30 ANDAs.
