COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- As health insurance costs continue to rise faster than inflation rates, health insurers are engaged in a heated battle to find new ways to slow the rate of premium increases while ensuring access to quality health care for members. In response, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is introducing HMOSelect -- a lower-cost product suite to the Colorado Springs small group market. HMOSelect features HMO plan benefits and a selected network of Centura facilities and other health care providers.
"We're really excited to align with Penrose-St. Francis and Centura to bring these new plans to the Colorado Springs area," said John Martie, president and general manager for Anthem's local business. "HMOSelect offers all the benefits of an HMO plan. But, rather than paying for access to Anthem's full HMO Colorado network, employers will save nearly 20 percent of premium dollars by providing access to the Centura hospital system and other facilities and providers contracted with HMOSelect. Employers make the most of their health care dollars while their employees may receive health care services from community-based physicians near where they live or work."
Modeled after Anthem's Colorado BlueAdvantage plans, HMOSelect offers rich, comprehensive HMO benefits at an affordable price. The plans include coverage for preventive care, urgent and emergency care, hospital treatment and surgery, prescription drugs and more. The HMOSelect network currently includes 14 facilities, which are listed below, and approximately 5,000 providers. This product line is specifically designed for small employers in Elbert, El Paso, and Teller counties. Quotes are now available for small groups for a November 1, 2006 effective date.
"Penrose St. Francis is pleased to have our hospitals join other Centura facilities as the backbone of the Anthem HMOSelect network," said Rick O'Connell, chief executive officer, Penrose St. Francis. "This new product reflects our commitment to Colorado Springs and our willingness to assist in bringing creative new solutions to meet the challenges of small businesses in El Paso County."
