First Toshiba 64-Slice High-Speed CT Scanner Introduced to the San Francisco Area Community
Posted on: Wednesday, 15 November 2006, 12:00 CST
Liberty Pacific Medical Imaging:
WHO: SAN FRANCISCO ADVANCED MEDICAL IMAGING - (a Liberty Pacific Medical Imaging-owned (LPMI) center. LPMI develops, owns and operates medical diagnostic imaging centers, primarily in Northern and Southern California).
WHAT: Unveiling of first Toshiba 64-slice high-speed, high-resolution CT scanner to the local medical community.
The 64-slice CT technology performs in ways no other imaging tool on the market today can. The new Toshiba scanner features cutting-edge CT imaging, 3-D data processing technology and tele-radiology systems, which are used to screen and diagnose cardiac disease among patients. The scanner will also allow patients access to advanced cardiac calcium scoring and cardiac CT angiography exams. This helps prevent and detect cardiovascular disease in patients.
The new, high-speed Toshiba 64-slice scanner can:
-- Produce never-before-possible freeze-frame imaging within a single heartbeat. -- Capture pulsing vessels using the same freeze-frame motion (experts can now look into the walls of arteries to detect plaque formation - this was not possible prior to 3-D processings of CT imaging data). -- Detect the most minuscule cancer nodules, making it extremely effective in revealing lung cancer. -- Complete patient scans in seconds and imaging exams within 8-10 minutes, based on its exceptional speed. -- Obtain scan results on even the most morbidly obese patients, due to its high-resolution capabilities.
WHEN: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2006 (Open house: 5 p.m.)
WHERE: SAN FRANCISCO ADVANCED MEDICAL IMAGING 325 Sacramento Street, San Francisco, 415-321-4674 (4MRI)
WHY: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the single leading cause of death in the United States for men and women, according to the American Heart Association. It afflicts more than one million people in the U.S. annually. Currently, cardiac CT angiography is the most non-invasive approach to diagnosing cardiovascular disease and providing early detection.
ABOUT: Medical technology advancements are paving the way for better patient care. Since its establishment in the San Francisco marketplace in 2004, San Francisco Advanced Medical Imaging has built a strong presence within the cardiovascular CT angiography arena and also served as a state-of-the-art physician education and training center attracting medical professionals from around the nation. It was recently selected as an official authorized Toshiba training site, offering physicians from around the country educational cardiac CT platforms. All this places San Francisco Advanced Medical Imaging at the forefront in diagnostic imaging throughout the greater Bay area.
With the new CT scanner, San Francisco Advanced Medical Imaging is taking an innovative and collaborative approach to cardiac CT imaging by integrating cardiologists into the professionals interpretation of the images, along with its radiologists. Together, these physicians are now reading, diagnosing and designing treatment plans of care most suitable for their patients, an uncommon tactic in today's imaging arena.
