Rockville PET Imaging Adds 16 Slice PET/CT
Rockville PET Imaging, P.C. is pleased to announce the installation of a new 16 slice state-of-the-art biograph™ diagnostic imaging system, from Siemens Medical Systems, Inc.
The new biograph™ imaging system combines advanced PET and CT imaging technology to create an evolutionary new diagnostic imaging system. As the patient undergoes a scan in this state-of-the-art imaging system, the anatomically detailed information obtained from a CT scan is merged with the biological function recorded by the PET scanner to form not merely a photograph, but a biograph – an image that records living tissues and life processes.
The anatomical and biological information obtained from the biograph™ scan permits accurate tumor detection and localization for a variety of cancers, including melanoma, lymphoma, lung, colorectal, head and neck, and ovarian cancers. Other applications and benefits include reducing biopsy sampling errors, improvement of therapy planning and treatment, and assessment of response to treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
The benefits to the patient are obvious – Rockville PET Imaging’s new PET/CT system aids physicians in earlier diagnosis, accurate staging and localization, precise treatment and patient monitoring.
With the state-of-the-art images that the biograph™ system produces, patient outcomes are enhanced and unnecessary procedures are avoided.
