Dairy Fresh Farms, the Canadian-based dairy corporation with its own patented diary process, is to begin field trials for six new flavors of premium ice cream containing Omega-3s in Vancouver and Montreal.
Dairy Fresh estimates that the market for premium ice cream is worth over $240 million annually in Canada. Robert Harrison, the company's director and CEO, said he hopes that its new formulations will add a 'New Generation' of healthy ice creams to this market.
The new formulations, acquired from NutriOne Corporation, contain Omega-3s, the essential fatty acids said to maintain good health, promote brain and vision development and protect against disease.
Mr Harrison said: "This is a very large opportunity for the company; we are absolutely delighted with this revolutionary breakthrough in the 'Dangerous and Delicious,' healthy-for-you ice cream market."
The "Health Check" program of the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundations are supporting the move.
