NAPNAP and CW Publishing Group Receive Media Award From the American Academy of Nursing for Kids' Health Matters

Posted on: Wednesday, 29 November 2006, 15:02 CST

The publication Kids' Health Matters was declared a winner by the American Academy of Nursing at their annual Media Awards gala, held this year in Miami, Florida on November 11, 2006. This award was presented to recognize Kids' Health Matters as an outstanding publication that will increase public awareness of the value nursing plays in promoting children's health and providing children's health care to the public. Millions of parents will continue to learn of ways to promote their children's health through this magazine which is being distributed to more than 1 million parents in 2006.

Kids' Health Matters, produced for the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) by CW Publishing Group, is the first publication to be written by nurse practitioners who care for our nation's 71 million children. Pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) often serve as the primary healthcare provider for children of all ages, so they are perfectly positioned to educate families on how to establish healthy habits with their children. Members of NAPNAP personally hand the booklets to their patients and their families during office visits.

"We are delighted to be acknowledged by the American Academy of Nursing for our campaign to provide the best information for parents of school age children at the point of care--when the parent and child are most ready to receive relevant information about healthy habits--in primary care and other settings that children receive health care information and education," says Karen Kelly Thomas, Executive Director of NAPNAP. "The fact that the publication is provided by their trusted nurse practitioner to extend the information provided every day is an extra bonus to the care patients receive during that visit," Kelly Thomas continues.

Kids Health Matters is packed full of articles on topics that NAPNAP feels are important to children's health, such as healthy eating, snacking and exercise, tending to common childhood concerns, such as allergies and asthma, and promoting mental health and looking for signs that a child may not be physically or mentally well. The editorial content in the book is specifically written for parents of school age children and includes money saving offers for the family.

"Pediatric Nurse Practitioners are always looking for ways to provide information to families," says NAPNAP's President Pat Clinton, PhD, RN, CPNP, FAANP. "Kids' Health Matters is an exceptional publication with the most up to date information for families of school age children. We're pleased we can provide this magazine to families at no cost."

Neil Agble, Executive Vice President at CW Publishing, explains: "This important program is made possible by the continued support of companies like AstraZeneca, Kellogg, Nestle, Target, Neutrogena, TAP Pharmaceuticals, and Sanofi Pasteur to mention a few."

"The added benefit of helping families save money on needed items through the Kids' Health Matters program is a win-win for families and nurse practitioners," continues Clinton, "and we are committed to continuing to help future generations of our nation's children and their parents know how to stay healthy through programs like Kids' Health Matters."

NAPNAP intends to reach millions more parents in 2007--and many years to come--through this program.
