American Lung Association and Teva Partner to Educate Asthma Community About the Transition From CFC to HFA Albuterol Inhalers

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. is partnering with the American Lung Association to educate the millions of asthma sufferers transitioning to more environmentally friendly quick-relief albuterol inhalers. The effort will help people with asthma learn about the transition, understand how the inhalers differ, and help identify access options for this essential medication.
In March 2005, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a ban on albuterol metered-dosage inhalers containing ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) as a propellant by December 31, 2008.
"We are making every effort to ensure that, during this CFC-free transition, people with asthma understand how to obtain, use and clean albuterol HFA inhalers," said George Barrett, President and CEO, Teva North America. "Our partnership with the American Lung Association is just one way in which we are helping to educate people with asthma about what to expect during this transition period."
John Kirkwood, President and CEO of the American Lung Association explained that public/private partnerships work well because, "both groups share a similar goal. Teva and the American Lung Association are trying to improve life for the more than twenty million people living with asthma, many of whom rely on an albuterol inhaler for relief."
In addition to the program with the American Lung Association, Teva is offering a patient assistance program which includes a customer service access line (866-482-9633), and providing samples to physicians' offices across the country.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., headquartered in Israel, is among the top 20 pharmaceutical companies in the world and is the leading generic pharmaceutical company. The company develops, manufactures and markets generic and innovative human pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients, as well as animal health pharmaceutical products.
