Fort Worth Based NTSP Physician Group Unveils First North Texas Electronic Medical Record System Using an Integrated Data Exchange Model

North Texas Specialty Physicians (NTSP), a multi-specialty Independent Physician Association (IPA) serving nearly 600 doctors, announced today that in early 2007 it will begin implementing an electronic medical record system using an integrated data exchange model. This record system will enable NTSP doctors to electronically share patient health information. The NTSP system is the first of its kind to be used in North Texas.
Through its electronic medical record system, the NTSP doctors will be facilitating physician-to-physician communication as well as developing a flexible and secure data exchange capable of integrating labs, hospitals and other providers. Treating physicians will be able to view in real time entire patient records across all providers working with the patient.
"Ultimately, this communication system will improve the quality of patient care by creating transparency for health care providers and their patients, all while protecting the integrity and privacy of patient data," said Dr. Tom Deas, President of NTSP. "It truly is a revolutionary step for our doctors and their patients and is an improved way of providing clinical services while also saving costs," Deas said.
NTSP has contracted with Healthvision, an Irving Texas based health care network and database company, to build the data exchange system. NTSP is funding a portion of the cost for its affiliated doctors. The project is estimated to cost $6.5 million for the first three years.
Fort Worth Texas based NTSP provides high quality medical care to approximately 15,000 patients every day. NTSP is a 600 doctor IPA, an entity that provides a set of value-added services for a collective group of physicians.
