Continuum Health Partners in New York Renews Relationship With Broadlane for Variety of Supply Chain Services
Posted on: Thursday, 7 December 2006, 15:02 CST
Broadlane today announced that Continuum Health Partners in New York City will continue its relationship for supply chain services with Broadlane after signing an agreement for an additional five years.
Under the new agreement, Broadlane will continue to provide Continuum and its five acute care hospitals in New York City with a wide range of sourcing, contracting, data and technology, clinical and purchasing services.
During the first five years of the relationship the two parties worked on more than 550 specific initiatives focused on contracting, inventory and utilization management. Together those initiatives recorded a number of notable achievements. Among them:
Reached $69 million in documented recurring annual savings.
Substantially increased contract coverage to levels that now exceed industry best practices.
Tackled costs in a number of traditionally hard-to-manage major physician preference items such as cardiac rhythm management (CRM) devices, branded pharmaceuticals, drug-eluting stents and spinal implants.
Drove system-wide increases in the use of supply chain technology and data capture.
"With Broadlane's help over the past five years, Continuum Health Partners has made enormous improvements in virtually every area of our supply chain operations and it would be hard to overstate how vital those improvements have been for the health of our organization," said Gail Donovan, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Continuum Health Partners. "As we begin our second five years we have mutually agreed upon a strategic plan that I am confident will propel Continuum Health Partners to even greater levels of supply chain best practices."
Five years ago Continuum Health Partners was the first healthcare system to outsource its supply chain purchasing operation to Broadlane. Today Broadlane is the largest provider of outsourced purchasing services to hospitals in the U.S.
"Continuum Health Partners has been an exemplary client of Broadlane's because they have the same passion that we have to look for inefficiencies in the supply chain," said David C. Ricker, president and chief operating officer of Broadlane. "They truly are one of the most progressive provider organization clients we have and we are very pleased that our work together will continue for another five years."
About Continuum Health Partners Inc.
Continuum Health Partners Inc. was formed in January 1997, as a partnership of two venerable healthcare providers, Beth Israel Medical Center and St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Building upon the strengths of both institutions, the partners soon established a broad-based, integrated health services network extending throughout the New York metropolitan region. In May 1998, the partnership was joined by a third distinguished institution, Long Island College Hospital, located in the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn. Continuum continued to grow in the following year with the addition of NYEEI, another outstanding institution with a 100-year tradition of excellent specialty care.
Continuum Health Partners has an annual operating budget of $2.8 billion. Its hospitals deliver inpatient care through over 2,700 certified beds located in six major hospital facilities in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Continuum providers also see patients in group and private practice settings and ambulatory centers in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, and in Westchester County. All four Continuum partner institutions were established more than a century ago by civic-minded individuals with a shared commitment to improving health, and health care, in their communities. Today, participation in the Continuum partnership enables each member institution to better fulfill its traditional mission by making available an impressive array of resources for the provision of state-of-the-art and compassionate care. Together, we are superbly equipped to identify and respond to the health-related needs of the populations we serve, in a patient- and physician-friendly environment.
