Cogon Systems Consolidates South Florida's Health Data

Posted on: Monday, 11 December 2006, 12:01 CST

The South Florida Health Information Initiative, a Miami-based consortium of healthcare providers, has chosen Cogon Systems to develop and deploy a health information exchange. The initial phase of the project is set to be completed by mid-summer 2007.

The health information exchange will have the ability to associate, store, and view disparate patient information via a web portal. It is currently planned that Health Choice Network and Mercy Hospital will be the initial healthcare provider participants, AvMed, a regional payer, will also participate in data sharing. The Florida academy of family physicians will also be working closely with Cogon Systems during the project to help define user and system requirements.

The SFHII was created by a grant from the Florida agency for health care administration. The mission of the SFHII is to promote a healthcare community that maximizes its technological resources to establish and maintain a cost effective, secure, and user centric health information infrastructure that allows the exchange of information between consumers, providers and payers.
