Axolotl's Community Wide Electronic Health Record Improves Patient Care in Western Colorado
Posted on: Tuesday, 12 December 2006, 09:01 CST
Axolotl Corporation announced today that Quality Health Network (QHN), a regional health information organization (RHIO) funded by local healthcare groups to improve care through shared technology, is using Axolotl's Elysium community-wide electronic health record (EHR) to provide emergency room clinicians with instant access to complete patient data. Consolidated patient data from a variety of sources, including lab, radiology reports, transcription and ADT information is constructed in real time and displayed through a single user interface, providing a complete picture, eliminating the need for repeat tests and enabling appropriate care.
"Patients presenting at the emergency room are being diagnosed more quickly, thereby increasing the speed and efficacy of treatment," stated Dick Thompson, executive director, Quality Health Network.
"When a patient comes to the emergency room there is seldom time to order a chart, have it transported to the ED, and then sort through all the data to find specific information," stated Dr. Kent Black, MD, chief of Community Hospital's Emergency Department. "We have found Elysium to be convenient and very helpful for securing patient information. Instead of trying to reach the patient's physician by phone or pager, we can view the relevant results via Elysium. Knowledge of prior medical history enables us to more quickly make a diagnosis and plan for care," Dr. Black continued.
Axolotl's Elysium community-wide EHR consolidates patient information from disparate hospital, lab, radiology, and transcription information systems in the community, and provides, through a single user interface, up-to-date patient information, improving the ability to deliver quality treatment and improve patient care. All reports are presented in a unified view, in real time. With a simple log in, users can access the most current patient reports as well as reports from prior admissions or encounters, whenever, and wherever they are needed.
