About.com, one of the Web's leading producers of original content, announces the establishment of a medical review board comprised of physicians from prominent medical institutions who will review content on the site's Health Channel. About.com has also appointed a medical director, Kate Grossman, M.D., to oversee the board.
"We are pleased that such a well-regarded group of physicians shares our vision for providing consumers with high-quality health content," said Marjorie Martin, general manager, About.com Health. "Dr. Grossman and her team of medical reviewers are critical in helping us to achieve this goal."
Dr. Grossman received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and her B.A. in human biology from Stanford University. Before joining About.com, Dr. Grossman was a clinician at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, where she also completed her residency.
About.com's physician experts will evaluate original medical content for accuracy before its publication and will regularly advise About.com's expert health Guides. About.com Health, which consistently ranks as a top health site according to Nielsen//NetRatings, has over 70 health Guides who cover a range of topics from asthma to pediatrics and stroke. The board consists of:
Richard N. Fogoros, M.D., a former professor of medicine, and a longtime practitioner, researcher and author in the fields of cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology
Steven Lee Gans, M.D., instructor in psychiatry, Harvard Medical School
Sanja Jelic, M.D., assistant professor of clinical medicine, attending physician, Division of Pulmonary Care, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
Meredith Shur, M.D., OB/GYN, The Mount Sinai Hospital
V.K. Gadi, M.D., PhD, researcher and instructor at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
"We see tremendous value in the combined talents of our medical review board and our expert health Guides," added Ms. Martin. "Users to About.com Health can feel confident that the health content they are reading has been fully vetted by a group of top-tier, board certified physicians."
