PrimeGen Biotech Presents Stem Cell Platforms at Launch of New Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Ecuador

Posted on: Thursday, 14 December 2006, 09:00 CST

PrimeGen Biotech (http://www.primegenbiotech.com) today announced that it will present results of its stem cell platforms at an event sponsored by the Benemerita Sociedad de Lucha Contra el Cancer (SOLCA) -- an Ecuador-based institution to fight cancer. The event will be held Friday, Dec. 15, at Guayaquil's SOLCA Hospital.

Francisco J. Silva, vice president of research and development, is presenting "The Present and Future of Stem Cells." He will discuss these platforms developed by the company's subsidiaries, PrimeCell™ Therapeutics LLC and NewStem Biosciences LLC, including pre-clinical work using cell-based therapy to treat spinal cord injury.

The event officially launches a new bone marrow transplant unit for leukemia patients. The event is expected to draw notables from around the country, including a representative of the newly elected President Rafael Correa, along with well-known hematologists and oncologists. Also presenting are Luis Geffner, M.D., a world-renowned stem cell clinical researcher from Argentina, along with Bella Maldonado (Ecuador), Fernando Hernandez (Spain), Enric Carreras (Spain), Jose M. Moraleda (Spain) and Teodoro Chisesi (Italy).

"I'm thrilled to be invited to participate in the launch of this unit that will bring hope to many who suffer from leukemia," said Silva. "PrimeGen is very excited about the stem cell work being performed here in Ecuador. We look forward to collaborating with the Junta de Beneficencia hospitals and SOLCA to further develop stem cell technologies, making Ecuador a global leader for cell-based therapies."
