Florida Health Care Plans Selects Allscripts Practice Management System

CHICAGO and DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Allscripts , the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare, today announced that Florida Health Care Plans, Inc. (FHCP) has selected the TouchWorks(TM) Practice Management (PM) system to automate billing, scheduling and other back-office functions for their multi-specialty group of 50 physicians and six mid-level providers. The new system will be integrated with FHCP's existing TouchWorks Electronic Health Record to create a single seamless system for the organization's clinical and business operations.

Founded in 1974, FHCP is a wholly owned not-for-profit subsidiary of Halifax Community Health System. FHCP has 10 facilities serving more than 62,000 members in Volusia and Flagler Counties. FHCP also is the oldest federally-qualified health maintenance organization (HMO) in Florida, and the second oldest HMO in continuous existence in the United States.

TouchWorks Practice Management combines sophisticated scheduling and financial management tools in a single package. Important features of the solution include rules-based appointment scheduling, multi-resource and recurring appointment features, referral and eligibility indicators, and appointment and claims management.
Dr. Myers said FHCP selected Allscripts because TouchWorks PM offers advanced functionality that is far superior to its existing practice management system, along with improved integration with the Electronic Health Record. For example, TouchWorks PM offers sophisticated financial reporting features and the ability to limit access to patient information for improved privacy and security.
TouchWorks PM also enables FHCP to bring together the Electronic Health Record with its HMO database, delivering improved levels of patient service and reimbursement, said Mikelle Streicher, Ph.D., R.N., Director of Clinical Solutions and Information Systems. For example, FHCP's HMO patients will know at checkout exactly what their charges are for each visit. And, because the system enables front-desk access to the online adjudication function of FHCP's HMO, the practice can immediately collect payment for those charges upon checkout.
