The Natural Path to Healing; Clinics Help Provide Remedy for Day-to- Day-Health Care

Natural therapy or alternative medicine has a long history as a major form of health care over the centuries.

The place of the healer, whether a `village wise woman’, a shaman in the jungles of the Amazon or an ayurvedic doctor travelling the Indian countryside, has been pivotal in communities around the world.

Traditionally the healer was supported by the community with goods and food, rather than charging a fee.

With the profit margin being part of modern medical care, the primary motivation has shifted.

Where does that leave students who want to practise natural medicine, who need to live and want the opportunity to give?

The natural medicine practitioner has many career opportunities.

The Prema Trust, which runs Wellpark College of Natural Therapies, offers social service through natural therapies.

The trust runs free natural clinics at Rongomai Preschool in East Tamaki.

The clinics assist people to gain an understanding of the role of good nutrition, traditional medicine and simple remedies in their day-to-day health care.
