President Bush will veto any bill that would require the U.S. government to negotiate Medicare drug prices, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow says.

We have a Medicare prescription drug reform that has been saving people significant amounts of money, Snow said during a news briefing Friday. It is effective.

The House passed the measure Friday on a 255 to 170 vote.

Snow said both the Congressional Budget Office and the Department of Health and Human Services said the bill would have little or no effect on federal spending, producing no substantial savings to the government or Medicare beneficiaries.
