With the cost of an organ transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant patients are unable to shoulder the financial burden, according to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association. In West Jordan, volunteers are helping raise funds for transplant patients.

Their focus is Tailyr MacLeod, 12, daughter of Darin and Linda MacLeod, who has end-stage renal disease. The volunteers hope to raise $50,000 to help the family with the cost of a kidney transplant.

To help the MacLeods and other families with fund-raising activities, COTA is looking for volunteers. Anyone interested can contact campaign coordinator Kathryn Bair at 801-254-5199, 801-831- 0599 or by e-mail at gramieb@comcast.net.

All of the money raised is used for patients’ transplant-related expenses. Donations can also be made online at www.cota.org or mailed to COTA with “In Honor of Tailyr MacLeod” on the memo line. The address is COTA, 2501 COTA Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403.
