Talyst Names Michael Bordelon As Executive Vice President, Product Development, Extended Care Group

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 January 2007, 12:01 CST

Talyst, a leader in pharmacy automation, has named Michael D. Bordelon to the position of executive vice president, product development, for its Extended Care Group. Dallas-based Bordelon will be responsible for research and development of products that address the needs of the long-term care (LTC) market.

Talyst's Extended Care Group is exploring market opportunities for its proprietary software and automation products in sub-acute healthcare environments, including skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities and correctional facilities.

"Mike is a leader in the application of technology to improve medication safety and efficiency for long-term care providers and their patients," notes James E. Torina, president and chief executive officer. "His understanding of the challenges in long-term care and his proven software development experience parallels our approach to improving pharmacy accuracy and workflow."

As vice president, research and development, for Achieve Healthcare Technologies in Dallas, Bordelon led the National Council on Prescription Drug Plans' (NCPDP) 50-member LTC Work Group on electronic health records and e-prescribing standards. He was the principal investigator on a $1.5 million Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) grant to study long-term-care e-prescribing and led the development of the first standards-based e-prescribing implementation. He previously led the firm's 70-person product development unit, which created web-based electronic health records and financial systems tailored to long-term care.

Bordelon was chief operating officer and chief technology officer for Patient Technologies when it merged with Achieve Healthcare Technologies. Prior to that, he co-founded 10X Labs, a software development consulting company. Bordelon started his career at Accenture in the technology group, focused in the financial services industry, where he played a leadership role in growing the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) practice.

Bordelon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University, in College Station. For the NCPDP, he leads the Long Term Care EHR/HL7 Task Group and has been a featured speaker. He is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
