Advanced Medical Optics Buys Second Company in Two Weeks

Jan. 16–Advanced Medical Optics Inc. continued its buying binge announcing its second acquisition in as many weeks today.

The Santa Ana LASIK eye surgery company said it bought WaveFront Sciences Inc., a privately held Albuquerque company, for $20 million. WaveFront provides detailed eye measurements to determine what surgical corrections need to be made during LASIK surgery.

Advanced Medical’s announcement comes a week after it said it would buy IntraLase Corp. in Irvine for $808 million. IntraLase makes an ultra-fast laser for cutting a flap in the cornea while Advanced Medical’s lasers reshape the cornea to correct nearsightedness or astigmatism.
