Jan. 21–Two teenage boys were shot and killed early this afternoon in an East Palo Alto carport.

Police began a manhunt for at least two men in black-hooded sweatshirts after they approached and argued with the 13- and 17-year-old boys. One of the men then shot the teens with a semi-automatic handgun, police said.

Police arrived at the scene about 12:25 p.m. after responding to reports of gun shots being fired, Lt. Tom Alipio said. Witnesses spotted the men running north on Schofield Avenue.

The boys were found next to a large silver pickup truck. One of them was declared dead at the scene. The other died shortly afterward at Stanford University Medical Center.

The area near Cooley Avenue and Schofield was still blocked off at 3 p.m. as San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies and officers from East Palo Alto and Palo Alto combed the scene.

Neighbors said they did not know the boys.
