Lake Forest Hospital Introduces Illinois’ First Dual-Source CT
LAKE FOREST, Ill., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ — Lake Forest Hospital today announced that it has launched the region’s first SOMATOM(R) Definition CT, a state-of-the-art computed tomography (CT) technology manufactured by Siemen’s Medical Solutions that is revolutionizing diagnostic capabilities. This next generation CT system incorporates two x-ray sources and two detectors, enabling physicians to freeze-frame nearly any beating heart with unmatched detail and clarity, without the need for beta blockers that are often used to slow the heart to avoid blurred single-source CT images.

Although the Definition uses two x-ray sources and offers twice the imaging power, its speed of resolution significantly reduces the time needed to obtain a diagnostic image and thereby lowers radiation levels to patients by as much as 50 percent. In addition, Siemens’ dose modulation software further minimizes the radiation necessary to conduct diagnostic imaging examinations.
