Spatbox.Com Announces Launch to Raise Funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research

Posted on: Friday, 26 January 2007, 09:00 CST

CAPE CORAL, Fla., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Spatbox today announced the launch of its Web site, http://www.spatbox.com/, to raise money for pancreatic cancer research, an aggressive disease that is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths. The website offers advertising -- using the popular pixel mode -- and the merchandising of its limited edition Magicube. The site aims to raise $300K for the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

The Spatbox.com web site sells 15Ã--15 squares on 12 separate grids. When there are enough advertisers to complete all 12 grids, each grid will be used to form one side of the Spatbox Magicube. (A magicube is a conversation piece that is displayed in a home, office or retail store -- anywhere it might catch someone's attention. The cube can be configured many different ways to produce different images.) Spatbox intends to manufacture a limited minimum run of 100,000 Magicubes to add to the cachet of advertising on it. Advertisers who buy a square on Spatbox will also receive a Magicube.

The inspiration for Spatbox.com comes from 27 year old co-founder Crystal Abbott. In 2005 Crystal lost her 56-year old mother to pancreatic cancer. The disease took her mom within six weeks of being diagnosed -- barely time for her family to comprehend what was happening. It was especially shocking since Crystal's mom had been healthy all her life.

"I'm very concerned about the fact that so few people are aware of a type of cancer that is so devastating," says Crystal, a nurse. "And that there is no test to diagnose this disease in an early stage when it might be fightable."

In the United States alone, 29,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer annually and nearly the same number die of the disease every year. The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer patients is only 4 percent.

Spatbox.com is formed exclusively to raise money for research on pancreatic cancer. Donations are made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is advancing the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of pancreatic cancer.
