Pittsburgh's Ohio Valley General Hospital to Dedicate $30 Million Surgery and Maternity Center

Posted on: Tuesday, 30 January 2007, 12:00 CST

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, Pa., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move that exemplifies the commitment of Pittsburgh's Ohio Valley General Hospital (Ohio Valley) to strengthening its role as a primary care facility for the residents of Pittsburgh's western suburbs, Ohio Valley will dedicate its new Surgery and Maternity Center at a private ceremony on Friday, February 9, 2007. A Community Health Expo for the public will be held the following day, Saturday, February 10, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Expo is free and will feature tours, health screenings, refreshments, prizes, raffles and more. The Expo will be held at the Roseta Conference Center in the W. Laird Davis Center of Learning next to the new wing of the Hospital. For more information on the Expo, call 412-777-6271. Private tours of the new maternity suite can also be arranged by contacting the OB-GYN practices associated with Ohio Valley or by calling the maternity department at 412-777-6272.

The 50,000 square-foot contemporary glass four-story wing, extending from the west side of the Hospital where it is visibly perched, is being phased into operation. The surgical floor will come on line the week of February 12th and the much anticipated maternity floor will be operational in March.

"Enhancing our surgical and maternal care services exemplifies our ongoing commitment to provide the residents of Pittsburgh's western suburbs with the best quality of specialty medical care close to home for all stages of life," says William F. Provenzano, FACHE, Ohio Valley's president. "Although population growth in this region trails the national average, Pittsburgh's western suburbs are expanding. Given the demographics of the area we serve, Ohio Valley is firmly committed to meeting the healthcare needs of young families, and to making certain that we are there for the entire community over the next 100 years, just as we have been for the past century." Late last year Ohio Valley prepared a time capsule filled with artifacts from its centennial celebration that will be placed inside the walls of the new Surgery and Maternity Center.

The new surgical floor has six operating rooms with two that accommodate orthopedic procedures and a seventh that is dedicated to urological procedures. The maternity floor has ten private in-patient rooms, four labor- delivery-recovery rooms, a specially-equipped room for C-sections, nursery and state-of-the-art security system.

Construction of the addition began in March 2005 and represents Ohio Valley's largest capital outlay since adding the Hospital's fourth floor in 1993. Pittsburgh-based Burt Hill designed the structure, and Burchick Construction Company served as general contractor.

In addition to the new Surgery and Maternity Center, Ohio Valley recently opened a new Pain Treatment Center that offers the latest and most innovative

techniques for treating chronic pain. Ohio Valley's Wound Care Center(R) continues to be a regional leader in the treatment of non-healing wounds.
