GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomson Healthcare, part of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and the leading provider of healthcare decision support solutions to improve clinical and business performance outcomes, today announced that Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, N.J., is implementing its Order Set Solution. The unique Order Set application improves a hospital's performance management in the medication care delivery and disease management process by providing evidence-based recommendations.
"The Thomson Healthcare Order Set Solution will provide our physicians with customizable order sets written with the best available medical evidence in compliance with national quality and regulatory standards, clinical practice guidelines and evidence ratings for each disease state," said Glenn Mamary, chief information officer, Hunterdon Medical Center. "As a six-year customer of Thomson Healthcare evidence-based content, we've experienced first hand its benefits including reduced errors derived from point-of-care decision support tools integrated with daily workflow. We chose this Order Set Solution to help our clinicians standardize the continuity of care to achieve our community hospital's goal of delivering safer healthcare services to our patients."
The Order Set Solution is an evidence-based library of order sets covering the most frequent hospital and emergency department diagnoses and procedures. The order set templates link to clinically consistent disease, lab and drug referential information from Thomson Healthcare updated with the latest evidence by a team of practicing physicians and pharmacists.
Hunterdon Medical Center is implementing the Order Set Solution across its 178-bed facility. Additionally, Hunterdon is receiving the Thomson Knowledge Management Tool, which manages, customizes and exports the order sets and the order item catalog to a variety of platforms: paper, clinician Web portal, intranet, Internet, or health information system with computerized physician order entry (CPOE).
"Many hospitals struggle to create and maintain their own orders, which is oftentimes a much larger project exceeding their expectations," said William "B.J." Lawson, M.D., vice president of Client Solutions at Thomson Healthcare. "Thomson Healthcare provides the in-depth clinical expertise to help hospitals gain consensus and manage order set content. And, because the order sets are evidence-based, clinicians are assured they have the most accurate and authoritative information."
Continuing, Lawson said, "The Order Set Solution is built for integration and flexible enough to support whatever healthcare information system is used by the hospital. We are proud to partner with Hunterdon Medical Center in making this one-of-a-kind resource an invaluable part of their integrated knowledge for physicians."
Add-on components for the Order Set Solution include: An order catalog with medical coding to facilitate mapping and integration to a hospital CPOE system; Thomson Professional Services for solution implementation; and built-in Boolean logic to assist with the physician's choice of the most appropriate order item. Executable orders will be available on mobile devices this year. For more information about the Order Set Solution, visit http://www.micromedex.com/products/ordersets/.
