Community Benefits When Regence Members Take Charge of Health $11,000 Donation to American Red Cross Represents Sign-Ups on Regence Engine

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Aiming to transform health care one person at a time, Regence pledged to donate $1 for each member who registered for the Regence Engine (myregence.com), a simple first step toward health that also helped the larger community.
The three-month campaign culminated in 11,000 Regence members signing up for the online community, designed to offer 24/7 access to advice on health care and lifestyle options, navigation assistance through the health care system, and to reward them for getting involved in their health care.
This small step for those members combines into a sizeable windfall for the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter, as Regence honors its pledge and donates a dollar for each of them -- $11,000 -- to help the organization fulfill its mission of prevention and preparedness for emergencies in the community.
"We are proud to partner with the Red Cross, to help strengthen the safety, health and well-being of the community," said Tom Kennedy, Regence senior vice president of Health Care Services. "Like them, Regence is committed to helping our members take charge and make a difference-in their own lives and that of the community we serve."
Regence members can take charge using the Engine, a central place for all their health-related resources: checking claims; getting fitness and nutrition tips; learning about medical conditions and medicines; searching for doctors; and researching costs and care options. For taking an active interest in their health, members earn Regence Reward points-redeemable for gift certificates to hundreds of restaurants, retailers, theaters and more.
"This unique opportunity reflects our mutual interest in helping the community take charge of its health and well-being," said Bert Kile, interim executive director for the Oregon Trail Chapter. "The Red Cross also urges people to take charge of their well-being by being prepared with first aid skills and learning to prevent and respond to emergencies."
"These results show how easy it is for members of our community to come together to make a significant difference," said Will McKinney, Regence vice president of Consumer-Directed Health Care Systems. "At Regence, we believe getting our members to take charge and make healthier choices will transform lives, communities, and all of health care. And the Regence Engine can help."
