‘Diets Make You Fat’: Author Presents New Method for Targeted Fat Loss Through Non-Restrictive Dieting

February 1, 2007

DORAL, Fla., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ — Dr. Rafael Bolio draws from more than 20 years of experience in obesity treatment to dispel myths about dieting and obesity and bring readers a method of fat loss with free calorie and macronutrient ingestion in his new book, “Diets Make You Fat: Eating Makes You Skinny” (now available through AuthorHouse).

Originally, Bolio advocated a low-carbohydrate diet to help his patients lose weight, but then noticed that they would often regain part or all of the lost weight once they completed the diet. He decided to research other options and came to the conclusion that malnutrition was a major component in obesity. This led him to develop a non-calorie-restricted weight loss program.

Bolio’s book is divided into four parts. The first part discusses various myths that surround obesity and what science has to say about them. The second part presents a general outline of sensible ways to reduce excess body fat through food and exercise. The third section presents a nutritional program that favors loss of weight and inches without curtailing calories or limiting any food group. The final section is a question and answer segment that covers major doubts concerning the program.

In addition to the non-calorie-restrictive program, Bolio also includes information on targeted weight loss. “Although current scientific publications do not mention targeted fat loss, this is an event that is easily obtained by readers,” he says. “The program that favors preferential loss of abdominal fat has already been presented at the 2004 Annual Reunion of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity.”

Bolio specializes in internal medicine and intensive care medicine and has been chief of staff of various medical services. He has dedicated 26 years of his professional life to the study of obesity treatment, including working with the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization in Mexico. From 1990 to 1999 he led a nationwide program to train hundreds of doctors to impart the Habit Changing Workshop, which is still used in the country’s major medical centers. In 1998 he participated in the elaboration of the nation’s Legal Criteria for Obesity Treatment. Bolio is currently the most widely read obesity author in Mexico. He has written three other books in Spanish: “Las Dietas Engordan Comer Adelgaza,”"Que Hacen Los Malditos Flacos Para Estar Flacos” and “El Placer de Cocinar Para Adelgazar.”
