LIVERPOOL brewer Cains is gearing up to launch its strongest drink this month to mark the city’s 800th birthday.

Cains Double Bock, an 8% dark lager, will only be sold in halves to ensure customers savour the city’s birthday beer when it is officially launched.

Bock was traditionally brewed on the continent to commemorate special occasions, which is why Cains decided to dedicate its own version to its home city’s 800thbirthday.

Made with Munich malt and Saaz and Hallertau hops, it is one of 12 beers on Cains’ seasonal list for this year, including a new organic wheat beer, black lager and creamy stout.

Cains joint managing director Ajmail Dusanj said: “King John signed the charter which granted Liverpool city status in 1207 and I’m pretty sure a few pints were drunk by the inhabitants to celebrate.

“As Bock takes longer to mature than most lagers, its arrival was often timed to commemorate something special.”

To help 10 lucky ECHO readers get a taste for the festivities, we are offering each winner one case of 12 bottles of Double Bock courtesy of Cains.

For your chance of winning, complete the entry form and return it to Ajmail Dusanj, Cains Brewery, Stanhope Street, Liverpool, L8 5XJ.

The 10 randomly selected winners will need to be able to provide proof of age.
