Pulitzer Prize-winning author and noted presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin will present a special guest lecture on Abraham Lincoln and his presidency to open the new Center for Education & Outreach public space in the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum.
She will speak Feb. 12 on his 198th birthday to celebrate the museum’s new exhibition – “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War.” A reception and exhibition preview are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. with the dinner at 7 p.m.
Reservations are $100 per person but the event is sold out.

Challenges of 9/11
Invitations from OETA, the Oklahoma Network, and the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism bid guests to a preview showing of America at a Crossroads on Feb. 15 at the Oklahoma City National Memorial Center for Education & Outreach. The television program will air and be screened on PBS stations nationwide, including OETA, April 15-20.
The private reception will be at 5 p.m. and will feature a panel discussion immediately following, led by former U.S. Ambassador Prudence Bushnell. Reservations are required by Feb. 9 and may be made by calling Ashley Barcum at (405) 841-9271 or by e-mailing abarcum@oeta.tv.
America at a Crossroads explores the challenges confronting the world after 9/11 – including the war on terrorism, the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the experience of American troops, the struggle for balance within the Muslim world, and perspectives on America’s global role. The series, hosted by journalist Robert MacNeill, shares a variety of voices, cultures and perspectives with the American public.
‘Quack’ a book
The 28th annual Friends of the Library book sale will take place from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Feb. 24 and 25 in the Oklahoma Expo Hall (formerly the Made in Oklahoma Building) at Oklahoma Fair Park. Admission to the sale is free.
A pre-sale party is planned from 5:30 until 9 p.m. Feb. 23 for members of Friends of the Library. Those who’d like to become members may do so in the lobby of Expo Hall the day of the party between noon and 4 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. Annual dues are $10 per individual or family memberships (4 tickets) or $6 for seniors (two tickets).

Kenny Wilkerson and Larry Willrath are Friends of the Library volunteers coordinating the book sale, which is considered to be one of the top sales in the state. Proceeds are used to purchase items not covered by the Metropolitan Library System’s budget and to provide funds for special programming. In the past 28 years, the Friends organization has given more than $2 million in the form of grants to the Metro Library System.
