National Cancer Coalition Receives Grant From AmeriCares Foundation
NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The National Cancer Coalition (NCC) http://www.nationalcancercoalition.org/ is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the AmeriCares Foundation to assist Gulf Coast cancer patients through its NCC Katrina Emergency Relief Program.
NCC President & Chief Executive Officer Robert B. Landry, III, stated, “National Cancer Coalition is honored to receive this level of support from the AmeriCares Foundation. It merges the AmeriCares Foundation’s commitment to aid those in the impacted area with NCC’s effective financial assistance program, thus fulfilling the unmet needs of at-risk cancer patients in this region.” Landry added, “Our goal is that all cancer patients are provided a means to complete their required treatment regimes and have the opportunity to live cancer-free.”
The NCC Katrina Emergency Relief Program, a component of the National Cancer Coalition’s NCC Provides program, is focused to assist needy cancer patients that were displaced or whose treatment was affected by Hurricane Katrina. NCC has been helping this targeted population since September 2005, shortly after the devastation caused by the U.S.’s largest natural disaster. The program helps patients with medical and non-medical expenses during their cancer treatment. Hundreds of Gulf Coast cancer patients have been assisted through NCC’s program, which has also received funding from the Lance Armstrong Foundation, as well as other non-profit organizations, corporations and individuals.
NCC, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, supports cancer relief, research and educational programs throughout the world. The Coalition’s international medical assistance program, termed NCC Cares, provides requested pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and hospital supplies to public hospitals and local humanitarian organizations that help needy patients in over 25 developing countries around the world.
The NCC Provides program awards financial assistance to needy cancer patients in the U.S., helping to fulfill many of the unmet expenses associated with their required treatments. Through its Angel Grants program, NCC supports cutting-edge pediatric cancer research. The Coalition also develops and distributes educational materials, resources, and televised public service announcements.
