BATESVILLE, Ind., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ — Margaret Mary Community Hospital, a rural Critical Access Hospital in Batesville, Ind., announced it is set to begin a three-phase process to install newly purchased Omnicell OmniRx(R) cabinets and anesthesia workstations to automate its medication-use process. Omnicell, Inc. is a leading provider of patient safety solutions.

After more than two years of market research, Omnicell technology was chosen over a major competitor, Bonnie Weber, director of patient care services, said.

“Omnicell was unique in its offering of many safety features,” Weber explained. “OmniRx technology provides allergy checks, bar code scanning and single-dose dispensing. We also really love the guiding lights, which direct the nurse to the correct patient medication in the cabinet.”

She also said that, “staff will no longer have to be involved in the time-consuming manual process of counting narcotics in the cabinet at the end of the shift because the process is all automated with OmniRx cabinets.”

The implementation goal is the phased installation in three primary areas — acute care (OB, ICU, ER and medical/surgical), the OR, and the outpatient clinic/oncology center,” according to Weber.
