Climbing High in Memory of Tragic David
THE mum of a four-year-old cancer victim, who is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in his memory, today made a fresh call for sponsorship.
Ann Gumery, aged 47, from Lammas Close, Solihull, will climb the Tanzania mountain later this month in a bid to raise more than pounds 10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Her son, David Gumery, died of cancer of the muscle cells in 1983.
Mrs Gumery, a full-time fund-raiser for Macmillan nurses, said: “I will definitely have David in my mind when things start getting really tough.
“Sheer guts and determination will get me to the top, only a doctor will stop me.”
In 2002, Mrs Gumery trekked 100km across the Sahara desert and in 2004 she walked the Inca trail in Peru.
If she gets her cash target for the climb she will have raised a total of pounds 25,000 for charity since 2002.
She has three other children, Lauren, aged 17, Christopher, aged 21, and Jonathan, aged 26.
She can be sponsored at www.justgiving.com/annkili
