Drink Labels ‘Should Warn Mums-to-Be’
ALCOHOLIC drinks should carry clear health warnings aimed at pregnant women, say campaigners.
The National Organisation on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is calling for bottles and cans of wine, beer and spirits to carry similar messages to those on tobacco.
It said even moderate drinking during pregnancy can harm an unborn child and wants to warn expectant mothers of the risks.
These include the baby being born mentally impaired or with physical disabilities.
Despite the dangers, 61 per cent of women drink when they are pregnant, the charity claims.
Last week Labour peer Lord Mitchell introduced a private member’s Bill in Parliament seeking warning labels on all alcohol.
