Flagship Global Health(TM) Launches New Service to Protect Individuals and Families in Medical Emergencies at Home and Abroad

NEW YORK, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Flagship Global Health(TM) , an international health assurance organization, has launched a new service called Emergency Care Direct(TM) that provides individuals and families with expert guidance and support in medical emergencies anywhere in the world. Emergency Care Direct(TM) includes a 24/7 emergency support hotline staffed by medical personnel who can help members and their families make informed decisions; a medical emergency card that provides emergency room staff with instant on-line access to a member's personal health history; and medical air evacuation to their home hospital or a hospital best equipped to provide the appropriate level of treatment.
More than 225,000 people die each year from hospital errors - nearly half of these deaths occur in emergency rooms. For Fred F. Nazem, Flagship's Founder and CEO, this was reason enough to create a service that helps members make optimum healthcare decisions for themselves and their families. "Medical emergencies are both frightening and confusing," says Nazem. "That's why we developed a service that would provide people with all the tools they need to achieve the best possible outcome in any medical situation, anywhere in the world."
How Flagship Helps in an Emergency
Support begins when the Flagship's emergency support hotline is notified of a member's medical situation. The hotline's medical staff will act as the member's personal health care advocate, consulting with attending medical personnel, and helping the member and their families make appropriate decisions about their care. If language barriers hamper communication with the hospital staff, translation services are available in over 140 languages. This combination services makes Emergency Care Direct(TM) ideal for business and recreational travelers and students studying far from home.
If the hospital is not equipped to provide appropriate care, Flagship will arrange for the member to be air evacuated to another facility. In addition, Flagship will follow up with patients through to recovery.
Flagship's president John H. Flood III adds, "Including emergency air evacuation from anywhere over 150 miles from home, at no extra cost, can save members thousands of dollars. Costs of $40,000 or more are not uncommon for a medical air evacuation for just one person."
Another critical component of Emergency Care Direct(TM) is Global Health ID(TM), a secure web-based repository for storing a member's entire medical history. Global Health ID(TM) gives members and their care providers the ability to access critical information such as blood type, allergies, current medications, physician and family contacts, as well as wills and health care proxies. This information is made accessible to emergency care providers through the account access information on the member's Global Health ID(TM) card.
The annual fee for Emergency Care Direct(TM) is $350 per individual, $600 for an individual +1 and $750 for a family membership. To learn more log on to http://www.flagshipglobalhealth.com/ or call 1-877-340-9104.
