Baseball

Elite Baseball will offer a clinic by pitching coach Dick Schoonover from 8-10 a.m. and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 24. Schoovoner has been a pitching coach at Ohio State and Kent State, and worked with the national teams of the Netherlands and Nicaraugua. He has worked with more than 60 pitchers who have signed pro contracts. All ages are welcome. The cost is $100. Orioles broadcaster Jim Hunter will speak at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at Alumni Hall in Iosue Student Union on the York College campus.

The Lititz Pirates of the Quad County Baseball League are seeking experienced players for this year’s team. College players and ex- Legion players are encouraged. Serious inquiries and experienced players only. Quad County is a local wooden- bat league with twilight and weekend games. Lititz home games are played at Warwick High School. Professional baseball player Matt Scheuing and former pro scout Troy Steffy will offer pitching lessons at the Universal Athletic Club for ages 8 and up. The one-hour lessons are $60 and can be purchased in packs of five sessions. To set up a training time, contact Troy at 569-5396.

Baseball/softball

Basketball

Millersville University Basketball is hosting “Pretty in Pink” to raise breast cancer awareness during the men’s and women’s basketball games in Pucillo Gymnasium from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 17. The first 100 people to attend will receive a free pink T-shirt, compliments of H & L Team Sales, Inc. Pink bracelets will be sold for $3. Participants may also make a donation for every 3-pointer the teams make in “3 for the Cure.” All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The women’s game begins at 1 p.m. and the men’s game begins at 3 p.m. Both teams will compete against East Stroudsburg. The Red Lion Flash basketball organization is hosting its annual 3-on-3 Tournament Saturday, March 24. There will be divisions for third-to-12th graders for boys and girls, a men’s over-35 and a men’s open division. Organization will try to have brackets for both A and B levels of players. The Chickies Rock AAU Basketball Club will conduct tryouts Sunday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 17, at Donegal Middle School on the following schedule: 1-2:30 p.m., 10U and 11U; 2:30-4 p.m., 12U and 13U; 4-5:30 p.m., 14U and 15U; 5:30-7 p.m., 16U and 17U. There is a $25 tryout fee. All tryout participants will receive a tryout T- shirt along with an AAU card. All teams will play in a minimum of four tournaments. Ten-Star All-Star Baksetball Camp and the Bryan Adrian Basketball Camp are taking registrations. The Ten-Star camp is by invitation only. Past participants include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Grant Hill, Jerry Stackhouse and Antawn Jamison. For boys and girls ages 10-19. Blue Chip Girls’ Basketball Senior Showcase is coming to Cabrini College in Radnor beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 24. Players should register between 8 and 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. Applications should be in the office by March 19. This event is for high school players who want to play college basketball. Division II and III coaches are allowed to attend. Bicycling

Bowling

The Spina Bifida Association’s annual Bowl-a-Thon will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Garden Spot Bowl in Strasburg. Cost is $6 per bowler, including a drink, shoe rental and up to three games for sponsored bowlers. All ages and skill levels invited. The bowler who raises the most money will be awarded two Dorney Park passes. Many more prizes will be awarded, and those who collect pledges and turn in the money by April 1 will be eligible for prizes even if they don’t bowl. Bus trips

The Ephrata Rec Center is running a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flyers-Boston Bruins game at the Wachovia Center Saturday, March 10. Bus leaves the rec center at 10:30 a.m. for a 1 p.m. game.
