WHAT: The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), The European Commission, and the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe have come together to convene the world's most renowned scientists, health care workers and leaders in emerging infectious diseases at the International Meeting on Emerging Disease and Surveillance (IMED) 2007 to address the threats of pandemic influenza and bioterrorism, as well as some of the most important emerging disease threats. Presentations will include new studies on MRSA, Ebola, influenza and disease transmission.

Some of the highlighted topics will include:

How can health professionals prevent the spread of MRSA in humans and animals?

Is there a tool or system that can predict flu outbreaks?

What are the effects of transmitting bacterial diseases from animals to humans?

Do masks and gloves really prevent the spread of highly contagious diseases?

Where is the next outbreak of Ebola expected to occur?

After examining models of disease surveillance, detection and reporting, what system works best?

WHO: The International Society for Infectious Diseases is the only global membership organization for health professionals committed to improving the care of patients with infectious diseases, the training of clinicians and researchers in infectious diseases and microbiology, and the control of infectious diseases around the world.
