Feb. 16–The Allen County Commissioners accepted a proposal from Fort Wayne Medical Education Program this morning to run a full-service medical clinic at a cost of $514,000.

Fort Wayne Medical Education Program beat out Tennessee-based CareHere to run the clinic for one year for county employees and their dependents covered by county insurance. CareHere’s proposal was for a one-year contract of $563,727.

The proposal was accepted with the stipulation that a finder’s fee be included in the payment. Ken James, an employee of the Fort Wayne-based Andrew Scott Group who represented CareHere, initially brought the idea of the in-house clinic to the commissioners 18 months ago. The commissioners acknowledged CareHere provided a template for Fort Wayne Medical Education Program to submit a proposal and wouldn’t have considered the idea of a clinic if James hadn’t approached them.

The clinic is anticipated to open in mid-March.
