Feb. 16–Community Action of Northeast Indiana has been awarded a $41,868 grant from United Way of Allen County to implement a system to work with five other community nonprofit agencies.

The system, developed by the United Way and other Allen County social-service providers, means clients applying for services at one agency can, at the same time, connect to services at the partner agencies.

The approach reduces paperwork, coordinates client assistance and measures performance across agencies. CANI’s partners include Aging and In-Home Services, First Call for Help, a program of the United Way; Lutheran Social Services; the Salvation Army; the Urban League and United Way.

The funds come through a 4Community grant from the Indiana Association of United Ways and the Lilly Foundation.

CANI is a private, nonprofit social service agency that administers a range of programs to help low-income families become self-sufficient. It also advocates for low-income families and provides research to other organizations.
