The 340B Prime Vendor Program Adds Eli Lilly's Zyprexa(R) to Its Growing List of Branded Drugs for Participants

The 340B Prime Vendor Program, managed by HealthCare Purchasing Partners International(R) (HPPI) announced today that it has added Eli Lilly & Company to contract to extend discounts for Zyprexa(R) (olanzapine), an atypical antipsychotic medication proven effective for treating schizophrenia, acute mixed or manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and maintenance treatment in bipolar disorder.
HPPI is the Office of Pharmacy Affairs awarded contractor to serve as the Prime Vendor for the 340B Program. The Prime Vendor Program was established to increase the discounts already offered under Section 340B of the U.S. Public Health Service Act. The Prime Vendor's role is to secure sub-ceiling discounts on outpatient drug purchases and discounts on other pharmacy related products and services for participating public hospitals, community health centers, and other safety-net health care providers electing to join the program.
As of February 1, 2007, Eli Lilly & Company has agreed to provide Zyprexa(R) (olanzapine) to 340B prime vendor program participants at a 340B sub-ceiling discounted price. The Prime Vendor Program was established to increase the discounts already offered under Section 340B of the U.S. Public Health Service Act, providing low-cost drugs to clinics, hospitals and programs for low-income Americans. Over 12,000 providers across the country qualify to participate in the discount program at no cost, and more than 4,400 facilities are currently enrolled. HealthCare Purchasing Partners International, an Irving, Texas-based health care group purchasing organization co-owned by VHA Inc. and the University HealthSystem Consortium, administers the program.
