Greenway Medical Technologies' Community EHR Solution to Facilitate Interoperability Amongst Hospitals and Ambulatory Care Practices

Posted on: Wednesday, 21 February 2007, 09:01 CST

CARROLLTON, Ga., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Greenway Medical Technologies today announced the launch of its Community Electronic Health Record solution, a step forward in the nation's push toward a connected, interoperable system that expedites the exchange of Electronic Heath Records (EHR) between ambulatory and acute care facilities.

In the days leading to the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference and the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase, where a great deal of focus will be dedicated to interoperability and connectivity advancement, Greenway(R) has partnered with Mid Rogue Independent Physicians Association (IPA) and Novo Innovations. These partnerships are the first in Greenway's Community EHR program and provide hospitals and outpatient centers in their respected areas with access to Greenway's flagship EHR solution, PrimeSuite(R). More importantly, both Mid Rogue IPA and Novo Innovations are able to use PrimeSuite to expedite the exchange of critical patient information between acute and ambulatory care centers within their networks.

Mid Rogue IPA, an Oregon-based company is deploying PrimeSuite via an application service provider (ASP) model. In this model, Mid Rogue will host and maintain PrimeSuite, providing physicians access through a monthly user fee. This service will be available to practices in southern Oregon and northern California that are looking to utilize EHR functionality to streamline the clinical, financial, and administrative aspects of their practice but lacking the financial means to fully invest in a solution. Through the IPA's vision of a Community Health Record infrastructure, participating IPA members will be able to access and share EHR information with other members within the IPA.

Novo Innovations is a Georgia-based provider of health information exchange and interoperability solutions designed to integrate the EHR systems of hospitals and ambulatory care centers. Novo utilizes a secure technology platform to interface EHR solutions such as PrimeSuite with other EHR systems, allowing hospitals and ambulatory centers to exchange patient information amongst each other.

"The end result with both of these partnerships is a connected healthcare system that facilitates the exchange of patient information in a manner that, when time is of the essence, will save lives, increase efficiency and lower costs," said Tommy Green, CEO and chairman of Greenway. "A connected, interoperable system ensures us that, when people are in need of medical care but away from their primary care physician, their clinical information is still available and the attending physician can administer the proper care, with accurate information, in a timely manner."

In addition to Greenway's support for the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase, which highlights the industry's leading interoperability efforts, several of the President's State of the Union addresses have also called for interoperable systems that streamline the clinical, financial, and administrative processes of acute and ambulatory care centers. These connected systems will revolutionize the future of America's healthcare by increasing patient safety, reducing costs and implementing information safeguards to combat the threats of bioterrorism and other emergencies that cannot be mitigated by disparate or paper-based clinical information.
