Stigma Battling Nurse’s Honour
A dedicated mental health nurse reached the final of a national awards scheme for his work highlighting the stigma surrounding mental health.
Lol Butterfield, based with Ashwood Community Mental Health Team in Guisborough, was a finalist in the ‘leadership in promoting anti- stigma and discrimination’ category of the national Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP).
The Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust nurse was rewarded for his efforts raising awareness and challenging the misconceptions that exist around mental health at the awards ceremony in London.
He has worked hard, often in his spare time, to ensure that people with mental health problems are respected and able to live the lives that they want.
Part of his campaign has seen him visiting local schools to teach children about mental illness and the stigma surrounding it.
He said of the award: “I am absolutely delighted to have been highly commended for the CSIP award and proud that I was able to represent our Trust in London.
“It provided me with an opportunity to raise awareness of the positive mental health promotion work we carry out in this region. I’m very grateful to my work colleagues for their continued support with this important issue.”
