Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISPH) announced today that Inspire scientists and collaborators will present information at the 2007 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) Annual Meeting being held February 23 - 27, 2007 in San Diego.
A podium presentation entitled "Anticholinergic Effects of Antihistamine Drugs Used in the Clinic" will be presented by Inspire scientist, Samuel C. Wolff, Ph.D., on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. PT. This presentation addresses the ability of antihistamines to interact with muscarinic receptors, which was evaluated using in vitro studies. The studies focused on the antimuscarinic (potential for drying side effects) activity of various marketed antihistamines including azelastine, cetirizine, desloratadine, fexofenadine, ketotifen and olopatadine, compared to bilastine and epinastine, related compounds in Inspire's portfolio.
Inspire's U.S. specialty sales force currently promotes Elestat® (epinastine HCl ophthalmic solution) 0.05% for allergic conjunctivitis. Inspire is developing two treatments for allergic rhinitis, including bilastine, an oral antihistamine in Phase 3 development, and epinastine nasal spray, a topical antihistamine in Phase 2 development.
The presentation will be available following the conference on Inspire's website, www.inspirepharm.com, in the Discovery & Development section, under Science & Technology.
